Why are games being filmed?

With growing interest in netball, Netball Victoria is committed to making the game more accessible to the community and fans. As part of a pilot program, Netball Victoria and Parkville Netball have partnered with Sportway to introduce smart AI cameras that: 
Live stream matches for families, friends, and fans to watch live or on-demand 
Support coaching, umpiring, and performance analysis with high-quality footage 
Promote safe and respectful game day behaviour

While other community sports have begun livestreaming matches through Sportway, this partnership is breaking new ground in Victoria, making us the first netball competition in the state to embrace this technology. It’s a bold step forward in making netball more accessible, visible, and connected than ever before.

Question 2

Who can see the footage?

Accepted Answer

Footage is available only to registered users on the secure Sportway platform. It is not livestreamed publicly or shared on social media. 
During this pilot, access to the footage will not be behind a paywall, however, it will still only be accessible to registered users. 
Please note that select clips may be used by Netball Victoria or Parkville Netball for editorial or marketing purposes, such as promoting the sport, competitions, or community stories.

Question 3

Will the footage be used for marketing?

The primary purpose of the footage is for: 
Game viewing 
Player and team analysis 
Behaviour monitoring 
 
Select clips may be used by Netball Victoria or Parkville Netball for editorial or marketing purposes, such as promoting the sport, competitions, or community stories.

Question 4

What if I don't consent to being filmed?

Accepted Answer

We understand that some participants may have personal reasons for not consenting to being filmed. If you select “I wish to opt out of filming” in the consent form, a member of our team will contact you directly for a confidential conversation. 
 
We’ll listen to your concerns and work with you to find the best way to support your continued involvement in netball, while respecting your privacy.

Is this optional?

This initiative is currently in a pilot phase, and while we encourage full participation, we understand some individuals may have concerns. If that's the case, we welcome a confidential discussion to find a solution that respects everyone’s needs and ensures they feel comfortable continuing to participate in netball. 
 
It’s important to note that Netball Victoria retains the option to end the pilot at any time if it is found to have a negative impact on participants or the broader community.

Question 6

Will my footage be shared on social media?

Accepted Answer

No, full match footage will not be shared publicly or posted on social media. The Sportway platform is private and secure, and access is limited to registered users only. 
 
However, please note that select clips may be chosen and edited by Netball Victoria or Parkville Netball staff for editorial or marketing purposes, such as promoting netball, competitions, or community stories. These clips may be shared on official channels, but always with care and consideration for those featured.

Question 7

Is Sportway used outside of netball sessions?

Accepted Answer

No. The system only activates during scheduled games. It does not operate during private venue hire, training, or other activities.

Where is data stored?

Accepted Answer

Sportway uses AWS servers based in Sydney, Australia, with industry-leading data protection and encryption standards.

Question 9

Can my data or footage be deleted?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Please contact Netball Victoria to discuss any concerns. Options for deletion or removal from the system can be arranged.

Question 10

Is this surveillance?

Accepted Answer

No. Sportway is not a surveillance system. It is an opt-in match recording tool for educational and engagement purposes.

What if I don’t give consent for my matches to be shown or recorded?

Question 12

Will people be able to screen record the livestreaming?

Accepted Answer

No. Similar to streaming services such as Netflix and Kayo, if an attempt is made to directly screen record the live streaming from another device, the Sportway platform won’t allow it to happen.

Question 13

Does the streaming have sound?

Accepted Answer

Yes, however the cameras are setupvery high in the stadiums, so it is not likely to pick up individual conversations, only general spectator noise.

Will my name be put up on the screen?

Accepted Answer

Only team names and scores will be published on the screen.
